Home Remedies for Dry Skin During Winter

Home Remedies for Dry Skin During Winter

For most of the year, taking care of our skin can be challenging, and it’s even more so during the winter months. When the weather turns cold and humidity levels drop, keeping your skin hydrated is even more difficult. Moisture escapes from the outermost layer of skin, making it dry, brittle, and itchy.

These home remedies for dry skin are effective during the winter seasons:

1. Exfoliate and tone naturally
While trying out home remedies for dry skin in winter, it is important to exfoliate the skin and tone it. A homemade exfoliator can be prepared using rolled oats, dried lavender flowers, and almonds. To this mixture white clay needs to be added. It can be mixed with water and applied on the face and rinsed after 10 minutes.

After taking a bath, use this exfoliator to scrub off the dead skin cells on the face. You can then prepare a natural toner by pouring boiling water on rose petals and calendula flowers. Once this mixture is cooled, strain it. Next, add one spoon of apple cider vinegar. You can apply this mixture on the skin as a natural toner.

2. Moisturize for hydration
After exfoliating skin or taking a bath, it is important to use a moisturizer to retain moisture and prevent the skin from drying. During winter, the use of chemical-based moisturizers must be avoided. The best moisturizer to use in the winter months is coconut oil. It provides a natural barrier that locks moisture into the skin and prevents it from drying up.

3. Condition with egg
Conditioning your skin is important and can be done using egg yolks. During winter, this will make your skin soft and prevent dryness. A face pack can be prepared using the yolk of one egg with a spoon of honey and milk. Apply on the face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash with cool water and pat dry to ensure smooth skin.

4. Try this banana scrub
One more option for exfoliating skin is a scrub prepared using banana. Mash a banana with two spoons of oats and honey to make a paste. Apply this paste on the face, and allow it to dry. Take two spoonfuls of sugar and add a few drops of olive oil. Use this to scrub off the face mask. This scrub exfoliates the skin, leaving behind soft skin.

5. Avoid hot water showers
Winter is when people would like to take a hot bath. If you have dry skin, a hot bath can take away moisture, irritating skin further. Take a shower with lukewarm water and reduce the time you spend in the shower. You can add essential oils to the bath to prevent the skin from drying. Immediately after the bath, moisturize your skin with coconut or olive oil.

6. Try a hand mask
The skin on the hand dries very fast due to contact with water and dry air. You can make a hand mask by mixing yogurt and honey. Apply this mask on the hands and leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes. Rinse it off using warm water. Pat dry and then apply a moisturizer like petroleum jelly or coconut oil.

The home remedies for dry skin listed in this article are very effective in treating increased skin problems during the winter months. These home remedies can help to keep the dry skin moisturized and protect it from the harsh and cold weather.
